Become a BREAST Friend

Be our BREAST friend and keep connected with a regular donation. You can choose how often and the amount you want to give. Your donations will enable us to never let it rest by funding clinical trials and research.

Become a BEST BREAST Friend

Donate at least $500 annually and you will be one of our very BEST BREAST friends, enabling us to connect with patients, doctors, nurses and families in the community at the point of a breast cancer diagnosis and giving people with breast cancer the chance of a future that is bright as a button.

Gift in celebration

Be the BEST and ask friends and family to celebrate your birthday, wedding or anniversary with a donation.

Gift in memory

Pay tribute to lives lost to breast cancer by giving in memory and being part of our commitment to delivering better outcomes for future generations diagnosed with breast cancer.

BEQUEST to research

A gift in your will to the Breast Cancer Research Trust will make a difference to lives now and in the years ahead, it’s a way to give beyond your lifetime and make a lasting contribution towards the fight against breast cancer.

For your gift to the Breast Cancer Research Trust the following wording is recommended:

“I give and bequeath (free of all duties) to the Breast Cancer Research Trust the sum of (or description of property and assets) for general purposes (or specific purpose) thereof and I declare that the receipt of the secretary or any other proper officer thereof shall be full and sufficient discharge to my trustee for the said legacy nor shall by trustee be bound to see the application thereof.”

Payroll giving is an opportunity to be our BREAST Friend and make a regular donation that is automatically deducted from your pay.

The Breast Cancer Research Trust (BCRT) is a registered donee organisation with both the Payroll Giving Foundation and the Ministry of Social Development.

How does payroll giving work?

You choose an amount and you can start, stop or change the amount of your donation at any time. Your employer deducts your donation directly from your pay, reduces your PAYE by the appropriate amount and then forwards the donation to us.

If you give more than $5 you will receive a third of your donation as an immediate tax rebate – no waiting until the end of the year and no filling out tax forms!

This means that for every $3 donated a $1 tax credit is applied and the donation has only actually cost you, the employee, $2. Importantly though we, the charitable trust, will receive the full $3 donation.

How to get involved in payroll giving

Talk to your employer about payroll giving and if it’s on offer let them know how much you would like to donate and how often and give them our details below. Remember to email us with your contact details so we can look out for your donation and say thank you:

Volunteering is rewarding

By volunteering with the Breast Cancer Research Trust, you’ll be helping contribute to the best breast cancer research to improve lives for people diagnosed with breast cancer.

We need volunteers to help us with events by working at our stand, collecting with donation buckets, distributing promotional material for upcoming events. Volunteers can also be asked to ring people on our database, or update some details on our database. Volunteers can also run their own event in support of us – we are happy to offer support, advice where needed.

As a volunteer you can offer as much or as little time as works for you. This could be a few hours, a day or two, or an evening at a special event. Every bit of time you spend as a volunteer is genuinely valued and appreciated by us, and the people we support through research.

If breast cancer has touched you personally, or touched someone you care about, volunteering can be one way to help make sense of the chaos caused by cancer.

The Breast Cancer Research Trust and Waikato District Health Board do not receive any government funding for breast cancer research. With each clinical trial costing at least $200,000 to run we rely on FUNdraising, donations, grants and sponsorship to ensure we can continue our evidence-based breast cancer research in pursuit of the BEST.

Research is the best weapon we have to fight breast cancer. By providing wāhine/women with access to clinical trials, we can advance our knowledge of breast cancer, discover best-practice treatments, and get patients the outcomes they hope so desperately for.

With your support we will be able to:

set up even more clinical trials

cover the cost of clinical trial related surgeries and expensive equipment

send blood and tumour samples to specalised laboratories overseas

pay for the dispensing of trial drugs by trial pharmacists

survey women’s quality of life in relation to reconstruction surgery or trial treatments

ensure our research staff attend training courses, workshops and conferences for their professional development and continuing education

assist breast cancer specialist staff to attend educational conferences and meetings in relation to improving breast cancer care

purchase subscriptions and memberships to professional organisations

support research nurses to attend weekly breast multidisciplinary meetings on management of new breast cancer cases

travel around the Waikato, and New Zealand, making people aware of the vital work we are doing and the difference it is making

assist with costs of publications and dissemination of research results to the medical and wider communities

advertise and promote our clinical trials to reach as many potential participants as possible

provide people with information leaflets about us, our research and clinical trials

The majority of people that participate in a clinical trial say they do so because they want to make a difference for future generations and they are making a difference. We want to ensure that their journey with us is as stress-free as possible and your support can help us to:

spend quality time with those that want to be part of clinical trials ensuring it is the right trial for them

pay for parking costs at Waikato Hospital

contribute towards travel and accommodation costs
